Birmingham basketball fans have a lot to rejoice about this week.

First off, The Squad is back! Our beloved Birmingham Squadron is beginning its fifth season in the Magic City against the Austin Spurs at Legacy Arena at the BJCC on Friday, Nov. 7.

This year’s Squadron NBA G League schedule will continue to be divided into two parts:

  • 14-game Tip-Off Tournament
  • 36-game regular season

All 31 NBA G League teams will compete in at least 50 games during the 2025-26 season.

The Squadron’s coming Friday, Nov. 7 game against the Spurs marks the start of the 2025-26 G League season and the Tip-Off Tournament.

Below is the 2025-26 Squadron game and promotional schedule (my favorite is Commander Bobblehead Day):

The Squadron are the NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans.

UAB v. Samford Basketball return in 2027

Some great news for local college basketball fans. UAB and Samford have inked a three-year contract to play each other from 2027 to 2029.

The announcement was made today by each athletic department. The last time they played one another was in 2010.
