11 Birmingham restaurants are included in the first MICHELIN Guide American South edition that was released this week.

First published in France in the early 1900s, the MICHELIN Guide was a part of helping travelers find dining establishments during their journeys.

Known today as one of the most recognizable restaurant guides in the world, recently the publication has expanded its footprint in the U.S., quickly becoming a go-to for foodies everywhere.

4 Birmingham restaurants make the Bib Gourmand list

No restaurants in Alabama received a famous MICHELIN Stair this first go round, but we were well represented in the other two categories, the Bib Gourmand distinction, recognizing restaurants for “great food at a value” as well as the MICHELIN’S 2025 Recommended Restaurants list for the American South.

All four Birmingham restaurants on the Bib Gourmand list include:

  • Bayonet
  • La Fete
  • Ovenbird
  • Pizza Grace

All four Magic City Bib Gourmand restaurants have been nominated for James Beard Awards, including Ovenbird’s Best Southeast Chef James Beard winner Chris Hastings.

Only 50 restaurants in the South were chosen for this category.

The Guide, which covers Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and the pre-existing Atlanta Guide was announced on Monday November 3rd.

2025 Recommended restaurants in the American South

Below are the Birmingham restaurants that made the 2025 Recommended list of 150 American South restaurants:

  • Automatic Seafood and Oysters
  • Bottega
  • Chez Fonfon
  • Current Charcoal Grill
  • Helen
  • Hot and Hot Fish Club
  • Reve

In addition to the restaurant honors, beloved Birmingham restaurateur and Bottega owner Pardis Stitt won the Michelin Outstanding Service Award.
