It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town. 

From a crafty new store in Mt Laurel to a steak and seafood restaurant coming soon to Downtown Birmingham, here are seven businesses that should be on your radar.

1. B’ham Chicken | Pizitz Food Hall

B’Ham Chicken is a new restaurant at The Pizitz Food Hall owned by husband-wife-duo Young and Kookie Shin, who also own The Standard across the hall.

The menu features chicken sandwiches, tenders and wings plus an array of Southern-inspired sides like cole slaw, potato salad and mac and cheese. Last but certainly not least, they offer several sauces including buffalo, ranch, lemon pepper, K-signature and more.

2. The Royal Standard | The Summit

The Summit just got a new shop just in time for the holidays: The Royal Standard opened on Wednesday, October 22.

Located between Orvis and North Italia, The Royal Standard is known for its European-inspired home decor, accessories, apparel, holiday decorations and gifts.

3. The Southern Stitch Needlepoint | Mt Laurel

Do you have a crafty friend, or are you the crafty friend? The Southern Stitch Needlepoint just opened a new store in Mt Laurel, offering everything needlepoint: kits, accessories, canvases—you name it.

The store offers a large variety of designs, including Halloween, Christmas, nature, food and much more.

4. Lapeer Steak & Seafood | Rotary Trail

A new elevated steakhouse and seafood restaurant is set to open soon in downtown Birmingham! Located in The Hardwick next to Epice and Ballard Designs, the Georgia-based Lapeer Steak & Seafood is set to make its Magic City debut on Wednesday, November 5.

Founded in 2019, Lapeer Steak & Seafood is a chef-inspired steak and seafood concept promising premium cuts of beef and freshly-sourced seafood—all in a cozy, boutique atmosphere.

After finding success in the Peach State, the restaurant has teamed up with Hot & Hot and Bottega vet Blake Hartley to bring the concept to The Magic City.

5. The Pickle Pad | Hoover

A new indoor pickleball facility is coming to Hoover on Lorna Road, and it’s set to become the area’s go-to spot for the rapidly growing sport.

The Pickle Pad is a full-service pickleball hub. The facility provides indoor courts for year-round play, lessons from experienced coaches and a pro shop stocked with the latest paddles, balls and gear.

6. Academy Sports & Outdoors | Gardendale

Academy Sports + Outdoors is coming to Gardendale!

According to a Monday evening post on Facebook, Mayor Stan Hogeland says the new sporting goods superstore will be located on Odum Road near Exit 271 on I-65. This will be the fourth Academy Sports & Outdoors in the Birmingham metro area and the first along the I-65 corridor in Jefferson County.

7. Valley Post | Highway 280

Located at 1012 Dunnavant Valley Rd, just off U.S. 280, an innovative new dining and entertainment complex called Valley Post is bringing four popular restaurant brands—Hero Doughnuts, Little Donkey, Luca & Lucy and Rodney Scott’s BBQ—to the growing Shelby County community.

And if you’ve been eagerly awaiting an update on its opening, you’re not alone. According to representatives, the project will be done by the end of 2025.
