This 800-pound pumpkin just rolled Into Cahaba Heights—see it now

Holy pumpkin! Leaf & Petal in Cahaba Heights just rolled in this year’s biggest gourd yet—a whopping 800 pounds! It might just be the largest pumpkin in the Greater Birmingham Area this year, and it’s stealing the spotlight.

The Great Pumpkin at Leaf & Petal in Cahaba Heights 

We’ve all heard of the classic The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, but did you know Birmingham has a few “Great Pumpkins” of its own being shown off around town? 

Local garden shop Leaf & Petal has made it an annual tradition to display an oversized pumpkin each October.

This year, you’ll find their mightiest gourd sitting proudly at their Cahaba Heights location, hauled in from North Carolina and tipping the scales at a jaw-dropping 800 pounds. 

Believe it or not, this isn’t the shop’s most impressive pumpkin to date. 

“This year’s pumpkin may be big, but we had a 1,250-pounder two years ago. We picked it up in North Carolina, as well. We were offered a 2200-pounder this year, but it was too big to fit in our Sprinter van and the delivered price was going to be $3,800, so we passed on it.”

While you can’t buy this year’s mega pumpkin—seriously, how would you lift it?—you can stock up on dozen of smaller, more manageable options. 

“We have around 30 different types of pumpkins throughout the season, carrying pretty much every kind of decorative pumpkin or gourd there is.”

Prices range from $0.99 for baby pumpkins to around $24.99 for large heirlooms. 

What happens to the pumpkin when the season ends?

Of course, we had to ask—what happens to the massive pumpkin once November rolls around? Do they enter it into a contest or carve it and bake it into a giant pie?

For now, the pumpkin is just for show. Plus, it’s the perfect prop for your fall photos.

But don’t wait too long—it’ll only be on display until about a week into November. After that, the Leaf & Petal team gives it a spectacular send-off: they blow it to smithereens with Tannerite. Don’t worry, they take all the necessary safety precautions. Still, can you imagine the explosion and mess? Talk about epic!
