Lyft Women+ Connect now available in Birmingham—what riders need to know

Lyft just made your rides around Birmingham a little more comfortable. Say hello to Women+ Connect, a new feature designed to make ridesharing safer and more enjoyable for women and nonbinary riders.

What is Lyft’s Women+ Connect?

Women+ Connect is Lyft’s latest app feature that increases the likelihood of matching women and nonbinary riders with women and nonbinary drivers.

The feature can be turned on and off at any time, allowing riders more control over their rideshare experience.

Why it was built

It’s all about making the rideshare experience safer and more comfortable for both riders and drivers.

Lyft made Women+ Connect with a few simple goals:

1. More control for drivers: Drivers get to choose how they want to ride + earn, putting the power in their hands.
2. Better rides for everyone: When rides feel safer + more comfortable for women, everyone wins.
3. Connect or chill: Want a quiet ride or a friendly chat? You get to decide. Who knows, you might even make a new friend along the way.

Is a women or nonbinary driver guaranteed?

Not always. Women+ Connect prioritizes matching riders with women or nonbinary drivers, but it depends on a few factors, like:

• Driver proximity
• Number of ride requests from women + nonbinary riders

The more women and nonbinary drivers who sign up on Lyft, the higher the chance of matching.

Don’t forget: You can always cancel a ride if you feel unsafe.

How to use Lyft’s Women+ Connect feature

Want to try it out? First, make sure your Lyft app is updated to the latest version, then follow these easy steps:

1. Open the Lyft app and tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner.
2. Tap View Profile.
3. Tap the pencil icon in the upper-right corner.
4. Tap Gender and update your information.
