In 2023, Merz Therapeutics North America granted UAB $130,000 to assist in funding construction and capital expenses of the training room in the new UAB Rehabilitation Pavilion, a state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation hospital.

“This grant was provided through Merz Cares, our employee-driven, philanthropic committee that is committed to raising awareness and providing support to programs that bring positive change for our employees, patients and their communities.

Like Merz Therapeutics, UAB is a leader in research and is committed to advancing medical education to support the next generation of healthcare providers, while also working to bring better outcomes for more patients with movement disorders.”

What’s inside the new Merz Therapeutics Training Room at UAB?

The training room will be equipped with learning technologies, such as:

  • Audiovisual equipment for live demonstrations
  • Diagnostic ultrasound systems
  • Electromyography (EMG) training tools
  • Injection simulation models
  • Virtual anatomy dissection table

“This provides countless opportunities. Procedure-wise, we can create a space that improves patient care, students who are interested in our field can get exposure and it allows me to include technology into the regular curriculum instead of the students just listening to me talk.

We are grateful for the support from Merz Therapeutics, which contributes to the ongoing education of future healthcare providers at UAB.”

Dale Colorado, D.O., Vice Chair of Education and Program Director, UAB PM&R Residency Program

Since the UAB Spain Rehabilitation Center opened in 1964, it has provided care to over 450,000 patients. Now, with the addition of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Pavilion, the capacity for comprehensive rehabilitative services continues to grow.
