Following the closures of What’s On 2nd and Iron City Pizza, many have wondered what’s next for the vacant corner in Five Points South.

Bandido Coffee owner Raul Chavez has confirmed plans to relocate his coffee shop from 20th Street South to the corner space, where he will also introduce a new brunch concept in the adjoining location.

Introducing Bandido Brunch & Social + Bandido Coffee

Bandido Coffee opened in Spring of 2024, bringing Latin-inspired flavors to traditional coffees—favorites include the horchata and the Mark Cuban, a take on classic cuban coffee. The café also offers desserts like pan dulce, a sweet Mexican pastry you likely won’t find at every coffee shop in town.

It’s currently tucked away in an alley behind Sanpeggio’s in Five Points, but by the end of the year it will have a new home in the former What’s On 2nd space. Next door, there will be a new concept: Bandido Brunch & Social.

Open daily, Bandido Brunch’s menu will feature both typical brunch food and Latin-inspired dishes and drinks.

“I feel like when [Bandido Coffee] came into Five Points, the area itself was going through some type of like transition phase where a lot of businesses were leaving the same time it brought in a lot of new tenants in the area. I’ve seen it change and grow so much.

Growing up here in Birmingham, I remember when this space was Fuego and I would go with a bunch of people and just hang out in that cool patio. Having the experience of what that space can offer and its potential as a gathering spot, I immediately reached out. That space has so much potential, it just needs some loving.”

Coming soon to Five Points South

According to Raul, Bandido Coffee will complete its move by December, while Bandido Brunch will likely open in early 2026. Will we see you there?
