The former Southside headquarters of insurance agency McGriff Seibels has a new owner. Birmingham-based private investment firm Barber Companies recently purchased the building and associated lots for $5.122M and plans to “unlock the significant potential within these sites that have not come to market in decades.”

Barber Companies purchases former McGriff Seibels headquarters

Barber Companies has added a new property to its diverse portfolio of more than 200 commercial holdings throughout the Birmingham Metropolitan Area. Located at 2211 7th Ave S in Southside, the former McGriff Seibels headquarters is positioned between UAB and UAB St. Vincent’s, and across the street from the ongoing Edgehill at Southtown development.

“Real estate is a location business, and McGriff’s former real estate is extremely well-located in Southside. We are excited to bring these properties to market. We intend to bring the University Boulevard site to market as a retail ground lease or build-to-suit opportunity, and we anticipate strong demand for that location.”

According to a Barber Companies press release, the investment company’s new “Southside Station” site spans 11 parcels and includes:

  • A 68,000 square foot office
  • An 8,900 square foot warehouse building
  • A 4,100 square foot flex building
  • Two dedicated parking lots, as well as adjacent parking beside each building

“We will open up the parking lots for daily and hourly parking through ParkMobile, and we are working with Williams Blackstock Architects on renderings for a redevelopment or substantial renovation of the office building for single or multi-tenant use. We welcome market feedback and will consider additional use cases as they present.”

Nearby businesses include:

  • Continental Drift
  • Yoga Lab

The acquisition of the former McGriff Seibels headquarters is Barber’s second significant purchase this year and fourteenth overall purchase in the past two years.
