UAB Hospital is one of the top cardiology departments in the world, according to Newsweek’s prestigious list of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026.

According to the rankings UAB placed 105th globally in cardiology and 142nd in cardiac surgery.

“UAB’s consistent recognition as one of the top health care destinations is a testament to the exceptional care provided by our faculty and staff daily. The consistent excellence of our patient care, our cutting-edge research and innovative therapies mark UAB as the destination of choice in Alabama, the Southeast and beyond.”

Dawn Bulgarella, CEO of UAB Health System

UAB number one in Alabama

Newsweek’s annual report is done in collaboration with Statista Inc., a leading global data and business intelligence platform that highlights top-performing hospitals across various medical specialties.

This recognition comes on the heels of the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals ranking that was released this summer.  This year’s U.S. News report named UAB Hospital the number-one hospital in both Alabama and the Birmingham metro area for the 12th consecutive year.
