Winn-Dixie closing 3 Birmingham locations to transition to new grocery stores
Reading time: 2 minutes

Winn-Dixie is closing three local Birmingham metro stores by early November to become new Food City locations.
The transition is not part of the recent effort to convert Winn-Dixies into Aldi grocery stores.
The grocer confirmed the changes after an inquiry by Bham Now:
“We can confirm that we have made the decision to divest the following three Alabama Winn-Dixie stores to Food City with projected plans to transition those stores in early November.
- 1721 Highway 31 N., Fultondale, AL 35068
- 465 Main St., Trussville, AL 35173
- 2405 US Highway 78 East, Jasper, AL 35501
“This decision is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of our business, and allows us to accelerate reinvestment into innovation and the renewal of our store fleet. We understand the impact this decision has on our associates, and we are fully committed to supporting them through this transition.
“Our focus remains on ensuring the success of our business and continuing to provide the high level of quality and service our customers expect and deserve. We will work through this process with care, and we are grateful for the support and understanding of our valued associates, customers and communities.”
Two Winn Dixie stores left in Birmingham
In March, the Winn-Dixie in Cahaba Heights closed. As a result of the latest divestment and transition, only two Winn-Dixie stores remain in Birmingham: one in Crestline and the other in Inverness off Highway 280.
