Homewood Public Library announces new renovations
Reading time: 2 minutes

Good news for Homewood bookworms! The Homewood Public Library recently began a new round of renovations funded by the City of Homewood, set to enhance the library’s spaces and services to the community.
Homewood Public Library begins third phase of renovations
In use since 1987, the Homewood Public Library building at 1721 Oxmoor Road has undergone several renovations in recent years. In 2020, the Library completed a 3,000-square-foot expansion that moved the computer lab and four new study rooms to the Adult Department. Then, the library parking lot was redesigned and repaved in 2022 to provide accessible parking for patrons.
Now, the Homewood Public Library has launched a third phase of renovations—thanks to support from the City of Homewood.
“The City of Homewood’s continued investment in the library reflects our deep commitment to education, access, and community connection. We are proud to support the Homewood Public Library—an absolute gem in our community that serves as a hub for learning, imagination, and inclusion. These renovations ensure that our library remains a welcoming and inspiring space for generations to come”
Carlos Alemán, Homewood City Councilor + liaison to the Homewood Public Library
According to a Homewood Public Library press release, construction is already underway and is expected to bring significant improvements, such as:
- A remodeled Large Auditorium, featuring new LVP flooring and a redesigned platform stage
- A new kitchen for the Large Auditorium with a commercial-grade refrigerator and freezer
- Renovated Children’s Department restrooms
- Updated gallery wall coverings
- Refreshed and ADA-compliant café restrooms
- New paint and new café furniture, made possible through the support of County Commissioner Steve Bolin and the City of Homewood
“We are thrilled to move forward with these improvements. While there will be some temporary inconveniences during construction, the end result will be a more welcoming, functional, and accessible library for everyone.”
Judith Wright, Director, Homewood Public Library
The library will remain open during the renovation, with updates shared regularly to help keep patrons informed. Keep an eye out for “pardon our progress” signs and check the Homewood Public Library’s website, Facebook and Instagram pages for updates.
