It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town. 

From a new beverage hub in Avondale to a new fried chicken joint located in a local Walmart Supercenter, here are nine businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, two locals spot we’re saying farewell to.

1. Kung Fu Tea | Tattersall Park

In July, we let you know about the new boba spot opening at Tattersall Park. Now, Kung Fu Tea is open and ready for business.

Kung Fu Tea is a bubble tea chain known for its wide variety of customizable drinks, including classic milk tea, fruit tea, coffee, matcha and even slushies.

2. Painted Tree Boutique | Highway 280

Painted Tree Boutiques, a boutique that will host several hundred vendors, opened in the former Nordstrom Rack space at River Ridge Shopping Center on Saturday, September 6th.

Described on its website as “an Etsy marketplace and Pinterest catalog come to life,” the new Birmingham location off Highway 280 is the first Painted Tree storefront in the state of Alabama. You can expect everything from homemade items and decor to clothing and jewelry.

3. All Good Beverage Co. | Avondale

A new hub for craft beers, cocktails and local fare is now open in Birmingham.

Located along the Hugh Kaul Trail section of Birmingham’s Red Rock Trail System, All Good Beverage Co. is a new production hub and community space offering contract brewing services, packaging solutions, an on-site tasting room, restaurant and event space and more.

4. Chicken Guy! | Gardendale

Chicken Guy!—a bold, chicken-focused restaurant hatched by television personalities Guy Fieri and Robert Earl—opened its first Alabama location on Thursday, September 4th, in the Walmart Supercenter in Gardendale.

5. Senlek Thai | Hoover

Hoover residents, your newest food fixation is here: Senlek Thai Rice and Noodles is now open on Montgomery Highway.

The new spot is serving up authentic, street-style Thai food from noodle bowls to rice dishes and more.

6. The Back Nine | Highway 280

The Back Nine, located off Highway 280 near Greystone, is Birmingham’s newest luxury indoor golf experience.

Featuring state-of-the-art technology and upscale finishes, it’s the perfect destination for golfers of all levels to play, practice, or host an unforgettable event.

7. China Master | Montclair Rd

Craving Chinese food? We have your next meal covered. China Master is open for business on Montclair Road in Birmingham, and it’s serving up all your favorites including Hunan chicken, beef and broccoli and lo mein.

8. Pickleball Kingdom | Homewood

Pickleball Kingdom, a national indoor pickleball venue company, is opening its first location in Birmingham at Wildwood Centre off Lakeshore Parkway.

Located in the former Conn’s space on Lakeshore, the 40,225 square-foot venue will feature courts, mezzanine viewing, pro shop and a snack bar.

9. Flipsies Furniture | Hoover

Locally owned and operated Flipsies Furniture is opening a new store in Hoover.

The new 25,667-square-foot furniture emporium will be located at the  Riverchase Promenade in Hoover at the former JoAnn Fabric space.

10. Blueroot | Pepper Place

Pepper Place’s Blueroot has been a go-to for healthy and delicious food options since 2019. Now, it looks like it’s undergoing a little rebrand, according so signage on the door.

The note reads:

“Lettuce turn over a new leaf!

Blueroot is closed and we are transforming into a new, neighborhood cafe. The Mustard Club is coming soon, a sandwich shop and more.

We look forward to being part of your daily routine! Stay tuned!”

The Mustard Club is a new “all-day spot” brought by husband-and-wife duo Chris and Anna Newsome—the same couple behind Birmingham favorite Ollie Irene! Anticipating to open this fall, The Mustard Club will offer the classic neighborhood feel with a bit of elegance.

11. Oversoul Brewing | Helena

Oversoul Brewing, a brewery in Helena that frequently hosts live music, announced that they plan to close permanently at the end of September. 

“After nearly seven years, we regret to announce that Oversoul will be ceasing operations at the end of September. Our time in Oldtown Helena has been marked by unforgettable experiences, exceptional music, and outstanding beer. Nevertheless, it’s time to chase other passions and start new projects.”
