Wrapping up its 50th anniversary, The Dance Foundation (TDF) in Homewood is gearing up for their upcoming season after a summer of facility improvements.

Thanks to funding from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the Goodrich Foundation, TDF finished their first phase of renovations, during which they:

  • Widened the hallways
  • Opened up the main lobby
  • Added staff workspace
  • Installed new floors
  • Applied a fresh coat of paint

While it may not seem like much at first glance, those improvements drastically change the atmosphere of the TDF building, located at 1715 27th Court South. The renovations are aimed at accommodating more students and families. The space in its previous state led to lots of crammed spaces during classes.

“It’s a happy problem to have so many people here.”

The renovations come just in time for the 2025-2026 season, during which TDF has all sorts of classes for all ages and experience levels. Some of their offerings include:

  • Moving Together for ages 1-2
  • Movement-To-Music for ages 2-4
  • Adaptive Learning, Movement-To-Music for ages 5-10
  • Young Dancer Program for K-2nd grades
  • Dance Artist Program for 3rd-12th grades
  • Adaptive Learning Dance Artist Program for ages 9-15
  • Adult classes for ages 18+

Classes for the youngest dancers often involve music from a live pianist, allowing them to develop their intellectual, social-emotional and motor skills.

Those interested in joining a class still have time to sign up! Visit their website to learn more.

In addition to their regular season classes, which start Tuesday, Sept. 1, TDF also leases space to community artists and organizations for events, classes and rehearsals.

A variety of different arts are practiced in that leased space, including ballet, hula, flamenco, modern dance and more. Additionally, a church uses TDF’s black box theater for services.

“It’s really just turned into a community space for all kinds of art.”
