Two new disc golf courses open in Birmingham
Reading time: 3 minutes

Disc golf is on the rise in Birmingham—and it’s easy to see why. The sport combines the laid-back vibes of a stroll in the park with the competitive edge of traditional golf.
And now, you can enjoy two brand-new courses to add to your must-play list.
New disc golf course in Helena

Looking for a quick round with a bit of a challenge? Helena just debuted a new 9-hole disc golf course winding through the back of Joe Tucker Park.
With a mix of short, technical shots and a few longer 300+ foot throws, the course is a fun workout and a scenic walk—especially with the natural elevation changes throughout.
New disc golf course in Pelham

Pelham is joining the disc golf scene with its very first course, officially open as of this past Saturday.
The new 10-hole course is under construction on the east side of the park and is designed with both beginners and seasoned players in mind. Expect a mix of wooded fairways, water features and enough challenge to keep things interesting.
The course is part of the city’s push to offer more outdoor fun for residents of all ages. The course is playable now, but more updates and refinements are on the way!
- Location: Coker Park, 732 County Road 72
More places to play disc golf around Birmingham
If you’re looking to expand your disc golf horizons beyond Helena and Pelham, the Birmingham area is packed with great courses. Here are a few local favorites:
- Inverness: A scenic, wooded 18-hole course that doubles as a solid walking workout. Expect about 2.5 miles of trails as you play through.
- George Ward Park: One of the OG courses in town. It started as an 18-hole course; regulars know about the “secret six” bonus holes (labeled A-F) hidden after hole 14. Shh, don’t tell everyone.
- The Coop at the SHAC: This rugged 18-hole course is a labor of love—literally. It’s an Eagle Scout project by Cooper Williamson of Troop 76. Expect elevation changes, one water hole and one woodland hole. Totally dog-friendly.
- Greg Carter Memorial: A wooded, technical course with mostly shorter holes. The longest clocks in at 330 feet, but don’t let that fool you—it’s tight, technical and packed with trees. A great course for players who love precision.
- Valleydale Church: A hidden gem that’s open to the public most days (just not Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights). Perfect for weekend play.
