Thanks to an effort by the Alabama legislature a few years ago to hold most municipal elections in the same month and year, more than 140 cities held votes for mayor and city council throughout the state yesterday.

Due to this, several key mayoral elections were determined in the Birmingham Metro area last night. Below is a quick rundown of the results.

Big night for Mayor Woodfin

One of the marquee elections on Tuesday was for mayor of Birmingham. Despite a crowded field of nine candidates, Woodfin was re-elected for a third term with over 75% of the vote.

Woodfin thanked his family and supporters at the victory party and committed to working for all Birmingham residents.

“Tonight, we celebrate what we’ve built together—and we commit to finishing what we started,” he said. “Whether you voted for me or not, I work for you. I hear you. I see you. And I’m ready to keep moving this city forward — with you.”
