When it comes to moving The Magic City forward, the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA) is leading the way. Think of them as the ultimate connector, linking businesses, industries and people while sparking innovation and creating jobs.
Curious how they make it happen? Keep reading for the inside scoop, a local success story (with video) and upcoming events you won’t want to miss.
Powering economic growth in Birmingham

The BBA is all about keeping our city’s momentum strong. As the region’s go-to economic development organization and chamber of commerce, they’re continuously working to attract new businesses, support the ones already here and create an environment where companies can thrive.
Their focus includes biosciences, technology, metal and mobility—some of the hottest industries shaping our future right here in the Greater Birmingham area.
Whether helping a company find the perfect location, connecting them with incentives or guiding them through the permitting process, the BBA makes business growth simple.
Another thing they do is tell Birmingham’s story on a national and global stage, showing the world why our city is a competitive, collaborative place full of opportunity.
“Birmingham is building the future—from our steel roots to our growing leadership in healthcare and innovation. We’re proud to foster a thriving business ecosystem where companies can grow, lead and make a lasting impact locally, nationally and beyond.
Steve Ammons, President + CEO, Birmingham Business Alliance

Here are a couple of big wins they’ve recently helped make happen:
- RPI Rentals—$9.6 million investment in a new Birmingham headquarters
- Truckworx—expansion with a new Birmingham corporate headquarters
- Leadership Exchange—55 leaders traveled to Raleigh, NC in 2024; Greenville, SC planned for October 2025
“Huge shout out to the expertise of the entire Birmingham Business Alliance. This group of professionals helped to guide us through obstacles and really helped to jump start the project and put it in motion. We would have been months and months behind without their assistance.”
Mike Levering, COO + Vice President, Truckworx
National media is also taking notice. The Wall Street Journal and Route Fifty have both highlighted The Magic City as a hub of innovation and opportunity.
Stella Source—a Birmingham success story
When Birmingham-based Stella Source—a company that bridges traditional manufacturing and e-commerce—was ready to expand, it could have relocated. Instead, thanks to the BBA’s support, they were able to grow from their early days at Innovation Depot to their expansion into NextTec, a hub for tech companies and startups.

Supporting Birmingham business, big + small

From ribbon cuttings to groundbreaking ideas, the BBA is helping local businesses and entrepreneurs shine. (Birmingham Business Alliance)
Beyond economic development, the BBA serves as the regional chamber of commerce, advocating for businesses of all sizes across Birmingham’s seven-county area.
Through programs, events and networking opportunities, the BBA fosters a dynamic business environment and helps members build meaningful relationships across industries.
A key part of this includes supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs through:
- Small Business Intensive
- 1-on-1 consultations
- Webinars + workshops
- Investor relations through ribbon cuttings
- Economic development through groundbreakings

The BBA’s Small Business Intensive (formerly known as Supplier Scale), is a 12-week program designed to equip participants with the tools and knowledge to expand their operations.
Here’s what participants have to say about it:
Small Business Intensive:
“The Small Business Intensive Cohort was transformative—like earning a Master’s in Entrepreneurship. Challenging yet empowering, it fueled tremendous personal and professional growth. Thank you to the Birmingham Business Alliance for your unwavering support and commitment to building one of the nation’s most vibrant and inclusive business ecosystems.”
Joe Smith, CEO, Smith + Associates Enterprises
