After 15 years of pirouettes, tapping toes and twirls, That’s the Pointe Dance Studio in Chelsea held an open house on Sunday, August 24, to show off a newly renovated studio and welcome current and future dancers. We caught up with studio owner Katie Alder to find out what this milestone means and what’s next for the city’s dancers.

After over a decade of daily classes, thousands of dance steps and countless memories, That’s the Pointe has much to celebrate.

“[This is] a massive milestone for a small business like ours. It means that for 15 years, we have had the privilege and responsibility to pour into the lives of families and dancers while being a part of the Chelsea business community.”

Another reason to celebrate? The studio’s newly renovated space, boasting fresh paint, new flooring and updated decor.

Highlights include:

  • Dance shoes from graduating students proudly displayed around the studio
  • A snack shop in the back where students can grab healthy treats between classes

Classes, technique + a welcoming space

Located on Old Highway 280, That’s the Pointe has served as a welcoming space for generations of children to dance, play and move to music.

“Our studio is unique in that we prioritize teaching proper technique and creating a space where all students can learn and grow without feeling self-conscious about where they are in their dance journey.”

The studio teaches students aged two and up, from introductory classes to intermediate and advanced levels. 

Classes include a variety of genres, from introductory to intermediate and advanced levels, including:

  • Ballet
  • Clogging
  • Contemporary
  • Jazz
  • Musical Theater 
  • Modern
  • Pointe
  • Tap

That’s the Pointe also features a competitive dance team that competes in local and national competitions.

Looking ahead

Katie filled us in on a few things to expect, including:

  • Featuring professional choreographers from across the nation to coach students
  • New local partnerships that combine the power of small businesses to maximize impact
  • Expanding class offerings to reach even more students
