Alabaster breaks ground on new $43.7M recreation center and library

On August 22, Alabaster broke ground on the site of the city’s new recreation center and library.
Located at the corner of Alabama 119 and Thompson Road, the facilities are expected to open in early 2027.
Facts about the new rec center and library:
- Recreation center size: 84,000-square-feet
- Multiple indoor courts
- Event and meeting space
- Indoor walking track
- Workout and fitness area
- Outdoor pool and splash pad
- Library size: 19,000-square-feet — triple the space of the current library
- Total cost of the new library and recreation center — $43.7 million

Alabaster is on a roll

Named by Fortune Magazine in 2024 as one of the best place in the U.S. to raise a family, Alabaster has also recently added:
- Police Department
- Senior Center expansion
- Amphitheater
- Renovations to Larry Simmons Stadium and Jim “Peanut” Davenport baseball field
