Downtown Birmingham is already a feast for the senses, from its historic architecture to rainbow tunnels and colorful street life.

That energy magnifies September 5-6 when the streets come alive for the 23rd annual Artwalk.

This year’s lineup is bigger and brighter than ever, featuring 100+ artists, musicians, vendors and more.

Here’s what you and the fam can expect—oh, and did we mention admission is FREE?

This annual treat helps spotlight established and entrepreneurial artists from Birmingham and surrounding areas—and it makes for a great time out on Birmingham’s increasingly vibrant streets.

While there are dozens of food vendors and adult beverage opportunities within and close to the festival, there’s also new businesses to support nearby so you can make a day of shopping, snacking and strolling downtown Birmingham.

“Birmingham Artwalk brings together a family of people who have been enjoying that same event for over 20 years.

It feels like a family reunion when you walk around the show. Between stopping and looking at the art, talking to the artists and seeing someone you haven’t seen in several years, one block can take over an hour to cover. That’s the magic of Birmingham Artwalk.”

Tony Diliberto, President, Birmingham Artwalk Board

This event has always been welcoming to budding artists (and enthusiasts) from all walks of life, but organizers have worked hard to make young art lovers more at home this year, including:

  • The KidZone, now known as PeeWee Picassos, is open longer than ever on Saturday from 11AM-5PM.
    • Find it in the Forestall Art parking lot on 3rd Ave N between 20th + 21st streets (near Zaza): 2009 3rd Ave N.
  • Families can expect “make and take” arts + crafts activities.
  • Musical acts will perform “busker-style,” which means noise + sensory issues will be better managed for all attendees throughout the 2-day event.
  • Note: PeeWee Picassos is not available at the Friday night portion of the event, so plan accordingly!
