Red Mountain Park is adding some new amenities to their space specifically designed to enhance safety and enjoyment for visitors.

Jefferson County Greenways is planning a 1,800-square-foot covered pavilion with universally accessible restrooms at the Frankfurt Drive entrance of the park.

The pavilion will be well lit and designed to be accessible to visitors with disabilities. Within the pavilion, a 460-square-foot structure will house multiple single-occupant restrooms.

Two of the restrooms will be designed for caregiver-assisted use.

The remainder of the pavilion will serve as an open-air, multi-use space where folks can take a rest or gather. It will also be used for school groups to receive educational presentations from staff and park partners.

The pavilion will be equipped with water fountains and bottle-filling stations to keep visitors hydrated and safe from the heat.

Once construction begins in the fall, the park recommends using the Venice Road entrance, but for those who keep using the Frankfurt Drive entrance, there will be a detour through Remy’s Dog Park.

Completion is expected by the end of 2025.

Jefferson County Greenways thanked Innovate Alabama — a statewide public-private partnership focused on entrepreneurship, technology and innovation — for their investment that made this project possible.
