This exciting, two-year project—funded by the Mellon Foundation—will supercharge the library’s mission to meet Homewood’s unique literacy needs with fresh programming, partnerships and resources.

“These new literacy initiatives will give everyone in our community the tools they need to learn, grow, and thrive…and make Homewood and even stronger hub for lifelong learning.”

Here’s what’s in store: Over the next two years, the library will develop a tailored literacy action plan, take part in specialized training and collaborate with fellow libraries nationwide.

“Guided by its mission to bring people, information, and ideas together to enrich lives, build community, and inspire lifelong learning, and its vision to be a cultural and community hub and a leading library in the nation, Homewood Public Library will use this opportunity to enhance and grow its English Language Learning, Workforce Development, and Digital Literacy programs.”

This means Homewood will enhance its English learner and computer classes and introduce new workforce development sessions, including resume building and job searching.

The library is also seeking passionate instructors to enhance these programs and foster stronger connections with patrons who haven’t yet utilized the library’s resources.

“We hope to grow literacy partnerships in the area to host more programs and classes right here at the library.”
