Grant Feely’s path to Hollywood started with a hobby a lot of kids his age enjoy: Watching YouTube.

“When I was around 7, I was watching behind-the-scenes footage for Marvel movies, and I thought it looked like so much fun!

So I started doing acting classes for a few months before my acting teacher told my mom that I needed an agent. And we went from there.”

Now, the rising 8th-grader’s career is taking off from right here in his Birmingham base. He stopped on his way out of town to update us on his acting career and share his excitement for playing Henry Lasso in the next season of “Ted Lasso” (if you haven’t yet watched this amazing show, now’s your time to catch up!).

Here, Grant shares his favorite past roles, what it was like meeting “Ted” himself and his favorite way to spend a free afternoon in Birmingham.

Bham Now: What’s been your favorite role so far?

Grant: Playing (young Luke) Skywalker in “Obi-Wan Kenobi” was crazy! The huge sets were so elaborate, and everyone was so nice.

And then I also loved working with Josh Hutcherson in “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” I was a fan of his past projects. This was one of my favorite sets to work on because of the actors I get to work with. Usually when I am filming movies I dont have other child costars, so that was really fun!

BN: What’s your favorite way to spend a day in Birmingham?

Grant: I love going to Waldo’s in Cahaba Heights with my family. And then we like to shop at the Summit and go see a movie. It’s good research.

BN: What can you share about the upcoming season of Ted Lasso?

Grant: I’ve met lots of the cast and Jason [Sudeikis, who plays Ted] and worked with him, and it’s incredible! They’re all so nice, and I had a great time on set. I’m really excited about it, but I can’t share too much just yet.

While he couldn’t give away many details of the new “Ted Lasso” season just yet—we tried to get the scoop!—he’s also looking forward to another premiere this fall: A movie called “The Movers” with Christopher Lloyd, Tom Everett Scott and Jena Malone.

But before that? “I’m headed to the beach with my family, and I can’t wait!” Grant says.

Who’s your favorite character on Ted Lasso? Tell us @bhamnow. Personally, I’m a Keeley fan, but I can’t wait to cheer on Grant with the rest of Birmingham.
