A round of applause for UAB Hospital is in order! For the 12th consecutive year, UAB Hospital has been named the No. 1 hospital in both Alabama and the Birmingham metro area in the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals ranking, released earlier today.
The No. 1 hospital in Alabama & Birmingham metro

As the premier medical system in the state, it’s no surprise that UAB Hospital—the flagship hospital within the UAB Medicine health system—has once again been named the best hospital in Alabama and the Birmingham metro. But it feels good to have a reminder!
“Being recognized as the top hospital in the state and metro area is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our physicians, nurses and staff.
These rankings reflect our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional care and advancing innovative treatments across a wide range of specialties.”
Dawn Bulgarella, CEO of the UAB Health System
This year, UAB Medicine ranked nationally in five adult specialties:
- Rheumatology (#11)
- Ear, nose and throat (#14)
- Obstetrics and gynecology (#28)
- Neurology and neurosurgery (#42)
- Geriatrics (#49)
UAB Hospital itself earned high-performing ratings in 19 adult procedures and conditions, with an additional seven specialties rated as high-performing.
In addition to UAB Hospital, UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham ranked as the No. 4 hospital in Alabama and the No. 2 hospital in the Birmingham metro.
