Birmingham’s heat index is 109

National Weather Service
(National Weather Service)

According to the National Weather Service, the Greater Birmingham Area is experiencing temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s this week. But with a heat index that has rocketed to triple digits, it feels like 105°-109° outdoors. Talk about some melt into a puddle weather!

This means an increased risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke for those spending prolonged periods of time outdoors and for those unable to safely cool down and remain hydrated.

Tip: Check on your family, friends, neighbors and pets!
