There’s still a lot of summer left in Birmingham, so grab your friends and have fun picking your own produce! From fruits to vegetables, Birmingham and its surrounding areas have a variety of u-pick farms.

We’ve gathered some spots within an hour’s drive where you can turn this activity into a delicious recipe or snack.

Side note: Birmingham has some pretty unpredictable weather. This can affect crops, so it’s best to contact each farm before you go. Or, check their socials to see what they have in season.

Bagwell Blueberry Farm | Cullman

This longstanding berry picking farm is open from 8AM-5PM. Not only can you pick your own, Bagwell also has hiking trails, a creek and picnic tables. Call ahead for a tour of the farm!

Petals from the Past | Jemison

Petals from the Past has a unique aspect about it. You can learn about all the different varieties of Alabama produce, and even purchase plants to grow your own at home. They are also hosting some upcoming tours and a cooking class!

Reeve’s Peach Reserve | Hartselle

Reeve’s, right in Hartselle, is a longstanding peach reserve. They’ve been growing peaches here for four generations within the same family.

Pocahontas Produce | McCalla

Slather on some sunscreen, pack your best basket and head to Pocahontas Produce to pick blueberries for only $15.00 per gallon! They also have an assortment of heirloom tomatoes, peas, beans, okra and peppers depending on season.

Allman Farms | Oneonta

Allman’s has a wide variety of produce. The main crop is tomatoes, but the farm has peaches, apples, pears, melons, corn, cabbage and more.

Lyon Blueberry Farm | Wilsonville

These fresh blueberries are grown right from Coosa Valley soil. It’s recommended to bring a blanket and have a picnic, which sounds perfect to me. Berries are $25 per gallon bucket.

Cutting G Farms | Cleveland

Known for their strawberries, Cutting G is located in Cleveland. They also have seasonal produce, beef and pork. Check them out!
