For Trice Green and Lynnie Harrison-Green—the husband-and-wife duo behind Hoover’s newest cocktail bar—the opening of Sticks N’ Stones is the culmination of a dream years in the making.

“The name ‘Sticks N’ Stones’ derives from the saying; sticks and stones may break our bones, but names will never hurt me. That saying has always been meaningful to me—everyone on Earth goes through things that threaten to break us, but we’re resilient enough to overcome.”

Located at 5852 Elsie Rd, Sticks N’ Stones has joined the list of new openings in the Knox Square community of Trace Crossings, including:

“My wife and I are lifelong residents of Hoover, so when we moved to Knox Square we thought it was a perfect opportunity to bring my vision to life.

We met with the developer on site when it was only dirt and trees, and here we are four years later—offering an elevated cocktail bar experience to the city of Hoover.”

To help develop Sticks N’ Stones’ bar program, the Greens collaborated with Jesus Mendez, an experienced local restaurateur and entrepreneur involved in Salud Taqueria, Adiõs, Unos Tacos, The Louis Bar and more in Birmingham.

“I’ve always admired [Jesus’] work from afar, and I figured if I wanted to be the best, why not hire the best?”

Sticks N’ Stones’ drink menu consists of a wide array of familiar and experimental cocktails, including:

  • The Knox Square Margarita, an ode to the community in which Sticks N’ Stones is located
  • The Grayson, Sticks N’ Stones’ take on a classic old-fashioned with pecan liqour
  • The Ultima Palabra, a twist on the Mezcal Last Word

In addition to beverages, Sticks N’ Stones offers a small but mighty food menu crafted by Chef Ché Gaines, who recently left his position as Culinary Director of Bocca Ristorante and Bistro 218 for Sticks N’ Stones.

“We are extremely excited and grateful to have Chef Gaines on our team. While we are primarily a cocktail bar, we wanted to have a solid menu of great food for our guests to enjoy.”
