Joining a book club is a fun, easy way to meet people—and Thank You Books has some great ones. Their OG book club meets once a month with wine, snacks, and good convo. According to Thank You Books seller Davis Gustafson, they believe you shouldn’t have to pay for community, so it’s free to join their book clubs. Birmingham Craft Club hosts fun monthly events at Cahaba Brewing, where local woman-owned businesses lead DIY projects—from mug painting to terrarium making. Their one-year anniversary event, Camp Craft Club is happening Sunday, July 20, with DIY stations, shopping and more. It’s free to attend and a great way to make something and some new friends. 4. Join a chess club

Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned pro, the Birmingham Chess Club is a great place to meet new people and sharpen your game. 6. Attend a sushi class at a local brewery

If you’re looking to meet people while learning a new skill, Birmingham Sushi Classes offers hands-on lessons at local breweries across the state. You’ll get guidance on making perfect sushi rice, sauces and rolling techniques, all in a relaxed and friendly environment. Classes cost $50 and you can reserve your spot on their website.
