Evening and early morning lane closures on Highway 280 this week: The details

If you are traveling evenings and early mornings on Highway 280 this week, expect some delays.

Beginning each evening at 7PM and ending in the morning at 6AM, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will close the right lane of US-280 westbound and eastbound for road widening.

Between Lakeshore and I-459

The work, which will occur from Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18, is between Shades Creek Parkway and the I-459 interchange.

As reported by Bham Now in January 2025, this stretch on Highway 280 averages nearly 105,00 vehicles per day. ALDOT is hopeful that additional lanes will ease congestion, increase efficiency along the highway and add to its safety.

If you are in a hurry this week, map out alternative routes and please use extreme caution in the work zone area.
