Looking for the perfect summer show? Red Mountain Theatre is serving up something sweet with their latest production of the Tony-nominated hit “Waitress,” running July 18–August 10.

Whether you’re a fan of powerful stories, original music or just really love pie (who doesn’t?), “Waitress” is a heartfelt, humorous and soul-stirring show you won’t want to miss.

A story of strength, friendship + second chances

Based on the beloved film by Adrienne Shelly, “Waitress” follows a waitress and expert pie maker with dreams of more. With toe-tapping songs by Sara Bareilles, it’s a story about resilience, friendship and finding the courage to change your recipe for life.

“My favorite line comes right at the end of the show—‘another lifetime.’ It always hits something deeper. It’s simple, but powerful. That line, like the whole show, is about relatability. That’s what makes it stick with people—it feels like it’s about all of us.”

With the help of her quirky coworkers and loyal customers, Jenna finds the one ingredient she’s been missing all along: courage.

Expect heartfelt songs, big belly laughs and a story that reminds us all how powerful community—and a good pie—can be.

Meet Jenna and her world

At the heart of “Waitress” is Jenna, played by a powerhouse performer, Beda Spindola, whose warmth and quiet strength light up the stage.

“Jenna is a beautiful, resilient character who represents strength and the complexity of a woman navigating her life’s unexpected challenges, with Sarah Bareilles’ incredible music bringing her story to vibrant life.”

“This really is a slice of life – no pun intended.”

Jenna is stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage, juggling long shifts at Joe’s Pie Diner and a surprise pregnancy that throws her world into chaos. But when a baking contest in a nearby county—and a handsome new doctor—offer a tempting new path, she finds herself at a crossroads.

She’s not alone:

  • Becky brings sass and wisdom in equal measure. (played by Juna Givhan)
  • Dawn is the quirky, lovable dreamer we all root for. (played by Kristen B. Campbell)
  • And the diner regulars? Let’s just say they’re the icing on this flavorful show.
