Earlier this month, the town of Chelsea approved a tax incentive agreement that will support a new $75 million development, according to the Shelby County Reporter.

Called the Chelsea Plaza, the development will sit off of the eastbound side of Hwy 280 near the intersection of Chesser Plantation Lane and the highway.

“This project will bring new major retail and restaurant businesses to Chelsea along with creation of a significant number of jobs. Immediate additional cash flow to the city would begin as soon as retail operations commence. This is projected as early as 2028 based on the developer projections.”

Chelsea Mayor Tony Picklesimer as told to the Shelby County Reporter

Additional details about the project:

  • 14.5 acres of land
  • 16 retail and commercial units
  • Units range anywhere from 1,000 to 20,000 square feet

Chelsea keeps growing

One of the fastest growing communities in Alabama, Chelsea opened the community’s first hotel in November 2024 and the third Salvatore’s Pizza in the region last month.
