Two new Spirit Airlines nonstop flights in and out of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) began this month, bringing their total number of Magic City non-stop destinations to three.

The low-fare airline launched its inaugural BHM to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) nonstop service in October 2024  Fort Lauderdale.

This month, Spirit added a BHM to Newark (EWR) non-stop flight on June 4th followed by its third non-stop flight between Detroit (DTW) and the Magic City on June 13th. The BHM- DTW service occurs twice a week on Monday and Friday.

Welcomed news: New Spirit non-stop flights

The addition of new flights to Newark and Detroit is good news according to the Birmingham Airport Authority.

“Spirit’s decision to add two nonstop routes this month is an indication of their confidence in this market.  We are thrilled to see the additional investment in our community and the end result of providing more choice for travelers.

Spirit’s low-fare, high-value approach to serving customers appears to be a good fit for Birmingham and we look forward to seeing more growth in the future.”
