Health and wellness is more than just what happens in a doctor’s office. Sometimes it looks like free, fresh produce drop-offs in your neighborhood or pop-up sessions at your local library for an honest convo about staying well.
Read on to learn more about how Cahaba Medical Care is expanding services beyond its health center’s walls.

Meeting Birmingham-area community needs with a Mobile Food Pantry

Birmingham summers are hot, and they can be especially tough for families facing food insecurity. When school’s out, many kids lose access to regular meals, and home pantries can run low.
That’s where Cahaba Medical Care steps in. This year, their social and behavioral health department partnered with Grace Klein Community to launch a Mobile Food Pantry.
The goal? To remove barriers like transportation and make it easier for families to access healthy food.
At their most recent event in May, the pantry delivered fresh produce, pantry staples and essential items to 150 people in Birmingham’s West End community.
Cahaba Medical Care’s free Talk with a Doc series

Have you ever had a medical question, but weren’t sure who to ask? We all know Googling isn’t the most reliable route, so Cahaba came up with a better idea.
To help further connect with the communities outside of the doctor’s office, they host an event called Talk with the Doc. It’s a monthly drop-in series hosted at the West End Branch of the Birmingham Public Library.
During each session, patrons and area residents can stop by, ask licensed providers questions and receive real answers on health topics that matter most, whether it’s tips on managing stress or how to prevent chronic conditions.
Dr. Clements, DO, Physician with Cahaba Medical, is one of the doctors taking part in the Talk with a Doc series. She told us the event isn’t just about learning, but about building trust.
“Health education doesn’t have to happen in a doctor’s office. By coming to the library each month, we’re creating a space where people feel safe asking questions and taking steps towards a healthier life. By talking openly about our health, we break down barriers.”

The next Talk with a Doc events will be on July 2 and August 13. There’s no registration required: Just drop in, join the conversation and walk away with valuable information.
