The City of Pelham officially opened a state-of-the art NHL Street Hockey Court this week.

As reported by Bham Now in April, the city, which is home to the Birmingham Bulls and University of Alabama Hockey teams, began building the court after it established a very popular NHL Street Hockey league in the summer of 2024.

In addition to Street Hockey, the new court can also be used for soccer.

“Last year, we joined the NHL Street Hockey program, bringing it to Pelham for the first time. We also have a hockey program at the Civic Complex, and a growing soccer community.

So we thought we needed to build something that would blend the two — hockey and soccer. We went to the City Council and they were big supporters.”

According to Cooper, the multi-purpose and multi-sport court can handle playing three NHL Street Court games simultaneously. There are also soccer goals at each end of the court for folks who want to play a pickup game.

Recognized by the Alabama Recreation and Park Association as one of the most innovative programs in the state, the City of Pelham’s Park and Recreation Department offers a wide range of facilities from beach volleyball to splash pads and playgrounds.

The new NHL Street Hockey/Soccer Court is at 2020 Pelham Park Boulevard:
