Looking for your new favorite lunch spot? Popular Bluff Park sandwich shop The Electric just opened its new location—The Electric East—in the former Tropicaleo space in Avondale.

Founded in 2021 by husband and wife duo Ben and Laura Smith, The Electric is a cozy neighborhood hangout and sandwich shop located at 2146 Tyler Rd #212 in Hoover’s Bluff Park Village shopping center.

“When we moved out to Hoover, we wanted to find a kid-friendly spot where we could get something to eat or have a drink if we wanted. There wasn’t anything like that nearby, so we saw an opportunity to contribute to the community by opening The Electric.”

Over the past four years, The Electric has become a popular hangout for the Bluff Park community and a success for the Smiths; so much so that they’ve decided to open a second location in Avondale.

“We always knew that we’d want to operate more than one location, so it was just a matter of timing.

The Tropicaleo spot had been empty for several years; a friend asked us to check it out, and the space has good bones. It was serendipitous!”

After a four-month build-out, The Electric East officially opened its doors to the public on Tuesday, June 24. Of course, the Bham Now team had to visit for lunch.

Per a recommendation from the owners, I ordered one of The Electric’s most popular sandwiches: the Hedberg. With turkey, bacon, melted provolone cheese, tomato, special “205” mustard and pickles between two slices of toasted sourdough, this is definitely a sandwich I’ll be coming back for.

But the Hedberg isn’t the only tasty item on The Electric East’s menu. The new spot serves up snacks like Beer Cheese and BBQ Chicken Chips, seven different sandwiches (including the Hedberg), salads and specials like:

  • Loaded Mac — Bacon, white bbq sauce, beer cheese, sweet peppers, scallions and macaroni
  • Spark Burger — Two smash angus patties, American cheese, Wattson sauce, pickles and shredded lettuce on a brioche roll
  • The Baron Sausage Dog — Country sausage, slaw, “205” mustard and jalapenos

Planning a visit? The Electric East is open seven days a week from 11AM to 9PM.

Located at 4426 4th Ave S, The Electric East joins a plethora of popular businesses in Avondale, including neighbors like:
