UAB Hospital North Pavilion expansion one of new high-dollar building permits

This past week, 11 new building permits were issued statewide for million-dollar-plus construction projects. Collectively, these permits totaled more than $100 million, with two projects from The University of Alabama system leading the way.

The priciest of these is a $43 million permit for a new student facility at The University of Alabama, with another $38 million permit for expansion to UAB Hospital’s North Pavilion. Here’s more:

Expansion to UAB Hospital’s North Pavilion is part of a the $73 million expansion of the University Emergency Department.

The expansion includes:

  • Renovations to the first floor of UAB Hospital’s North Pavilion.
  • Turning the adjacent atrium into clinical care space
  • Construction of a new three-story space in the drop-off drive of North Pavilion

With 66,030 square feet of new construction, the project will provide 59 new exam rooms and additional imaging capacity for emergency clinical care.
