Popular butcher shop reopens in Alabaster
Reading time: 3 minutes

KD’s Fine Meats, a longtime butcher shop in Alabaster, reopened last week after significant delays.
The shop was only supposed to close one month as it changed location, but has instead been shut since December.
Closure and delays

KD’s Fine Meats announced December 6 through their Facebook page that the next week would be their last at their former Highway 119 shop.
With a close date of December 13, the store claimed in the same announcement that it would reopen at its new location by the end of January. By January 21, a new announcement set an estimated reopening to mid-February.
Katelin Molan, owner and operator of the store along with other family members, said they found out the new location’s electrical and other behind-the-scenes components hadn’t been updated since the building’s construction in the 70s. The need to get up to code significantly delayed their ability to open.
It wasn’t until June 12 that the shop was finally able to announce its reopening two days later.
“Honestly, the best feeling was hearing our customers come in and express how much they’d missed our butcher shop. One of the best things about being in our butcher shop is, to me, not necessarily the food. The food is great, but the community that comes with it is far superior.”

KD’s Fine Meats

KD’s Fine Meats is a small Alabaster family business owned and operated by Bobby and Dana Molan, as well as their two children Katelin and William. The Highway 119 location opened five years ago, but the family was already in the business as DJ’s Fine Meats for over a decade prior.
“It’s just a traditional family business. My dad and I primarily run the ordering and the cutting of the beef and other products that we carry. My mom is a schoolteacher, so she’s here in the afternoon helping us package things. My brother plays college football, so when he’s not off playing football, he’s in here helping as well. We are genuinely all hands on deck.”

The shop’s main items are the beef and chicken, both of which are free range, antibiotics-free and hormone-free. They also serve pork, seafood, exotics and side items, and do their best to always source local, natural and sustainable food items.
The store also prides itself on its customer service. All meats are hand cut in store to the client’s specification.
