High atop the Daniel Building on the south side of Birmingham, crews are putting the finishing touches on a new, lighted sign for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), which purchased the 20-story, 283-foot-tall office building for $16M in 2023.

UAB’s familiar green logo has a new home—the tallest office building south of the Railroad Reservation.

Constructed in 1970 as the regional office for Daniel International and its real estate division, Daniel Corporation, the Daniel Building is located at 15 20th St S, next to Rotary Trail and the “Rotary Trail in the Magic City” sign.

In 2021, the Daniel Building changed hands when PNC Bank acquired the building and several others in its purchase of BBVA USA Bancshares, Inc., and its U.S. banking subsidiary, BBVA USA. Although PNC Bank added its own logo to the tower in 2022, the financial services company listed the tower for $16M in late 2022.

UAB completed the purchase of the Daniel Building in 2023.

Inside, the Daniel Building includes roughly 316,000 square feet of office space and is located near several UAB Hospital buildings, including:

The Kirklin Clinic
The Whitaker Building
Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine’s Lyons-Harrison Faculty Office Tower

As part of the purchase, UAB acquired the connected 390-space parking deck and plans to lease additional parking in the adjacent surface parking area.
