McWane Science Center welcomes new CEO Brandan Lanman as STEM-packed summer begins

Big news is bubbling at McWane Science Center. Brandan Lanman has officially stepped into the role of CEO, bringing nearly 20 years of STEM education and science museum magic to Birmingham.

From Orlando to Birmingham
Lanman brings a science-packed background to McWane, with more than a decade of transformational leadership as Vice President of Visitor Experience at Orlando Science Center.
Here he played a pivotal role in:
- Expanding access to hands-on STEM learning
- Designing + implementing award-winning exhibits like KidsTown
- Cultivating community partnerships
Did we mention he also used to teach physics? With his whole career focusing on getting people excited about how the world works, it’s like he was destined to become part of McWane.

Lanman steps into new role during exciting time at McWane Science Center
Lanman’s arrival couldn’t hadn’t happened at a better time. McWane is currently in the middle of a major glow-up with:
- Dropping Science, a new exhibit celebrating the science of hip hop
- A full lobby renovation, including the suspension of their famous Brasilosaurus fossil
- More STEM programming for students + teachers across the Southeast
