On June 4, a ribbon-cutting was held to celebrate and officially open a new cutting-edge 25,000 sq.-ft. warehouse facility at the Port Birmingham terminal.

Described as a game-changer by local economic developers, the new warehouse will greatly enhance the storage capabilities of the inland waterway, positioning the Port Birmingham terminal as a key logistics hub in the region.

Port Birmingham – best kept secret

Located at 8250 Birmingport Road in Mulga, the port has been called the “best-kept secret” in economic development circles by Jefferson County Commission President Jimmie Stephens.

According to a  recent in-depth economic analysis commissioned by the Birmingham Jefferson County Port Authority, the total economic impact of the six main terminals operating within Birmingport is $128 million.

The warehouse project was made possible through a public-private partnership that included:

“This groundbreaking initiative represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to bolster the economic vitality of Birmingham and Jefferson County.

Through strategic partnerships and innovative investments in infrastructure, we are poised to unlock new opportunities for growth and prosperity within our community. This project would not be possible without alignment from the City of Birmingham, Jefferson County Commission, and the State of Alabama.”

David Russell Jr, BJCPA Executive Director
