Children’s of Alabama is home to hundreds of incredible nurses, doctors and support staff. Among this group is Janet Briceno: the mother of a former Children’s patient and now an irreplaceable part of the local hospital’s team.
We sat down with Janet to hear more about her career experience and how she feels celebrated and loved at Children’s of Alabama.
Meet Janet Briceno

Janet Briceno moved to Birmingham from Peru 18 years ago.
In 2017, Janet was introduced to Children’s of Alabama for the first time when her son was a patient. When he was seven years old, Janet’s son was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Spoiler alert: Janet’s son is now a thriving 16-year-old!
Because of the care her son and the rest of her family received while he was a patient, Janet felt inspired to work for Children’s of Alabama. She officially joined the team later in the year of her son’s diagnosis.
Her experience as a mother—and now as an employee—allows Janet to offer families comfort from a first-person viewpoint.
“I’m assured that the doctors, nurses and everyone here is working hard for the kids to stay safe.”

Fun fact: Janet is pursuing further education at Jefferson State Community College!
“Everyone in the unit knows I’m in school. I don’t feel bad about asking for help because we’re family and they say ‘my door is always open.'”
