East Village Arts needs your help—see how this local collective benefits the Birmingham creative scene
Reading time: 3 minutes

East Village Arts (EVA) in Birmingham’s East Lake District is more than a venue—it’s a volunteer-run hub for community, creativity and change.
Now, it’s in urgent need of support to avoid closing its doors. Read on to learn how you can help keep this art hub alive.
The arts need our help

Since 2019, East Village Arts has transformed a historic theater in Birmingham’s East Lake District into a dynamic, volunteer-led arts cooperative. Modeled after New York’s East Village, EVA is more than just a venue—it’s a movement dedicated to revitalizing the neighborhood through bold, inclusive and experimental art.
From visual art and music to poetry and performance, EVA has provided a vital space where creativity thrives and community grows.
But now, EVA is at a turning point. Without immediate financial support, this cultural cornerstone may be forced to close its doors. The cooperative urgently needs to raise $20,000 to cover essential expenses—rent, utilities, internet and administrative costs—for the next six months. You can help them by donating here.
What East Lake Village means to the community
We sat down and spoke with LaDonna about what saving East Lake Village means to her:
“East Village Arts represents a return to real community connection in an age of digital detachment. It’s a welcoming space where people gather not just to watch performances, but to engage, listen and share. It celebrates local artists and voices, offering a unique place for meaningful cultural exchange in Birmingham.”
“It’s no secret that Birmingham harbors amazing talents who deserve a safe place to share their unique and diverse art forms and a community that is ready to engage in the conversation.”
