What led to the JLB’s outstanding 2024-2025 League year? It comes down to 24 Community Projects, each of which falls under one of the Impact Areas.

Here’s a look at each:

1. Advancing Education + Culture

The JLB believes that empowering minds empowers communities and is committed to helping individuals reach their full potential, especially youth.

Through the Career Cafes program, the JLB introduces Birmingham City Schools’ middle school girls to real-world career paths by meeting professionals in law enforcement, banking, healthcare and more.

2. Improving Health + Wellbeing

Healthy individuals make healthy communities. That’s why the JLB is dedicated to promoting wellness, both physical and emotional, especially for the most vulnerable.

Through their partnership with the Mother’s Milk Bank of Alabama, JLB volunteers help screen donors, pasteurize milk and distribute life-saving nourishment to premature and sick infants throughout Alabama.

3. Mitigating Crisis + Promoting Safety

The JLB is committed to providing resources and emotional support to individuals affected by trauma, violence or instability.

One powerful initiative is YWCA’s Healthy Relationships program where JLB members lead small group sessions for kids who have witnessed domestic violence and teach topics like self-esteem and boundaries.

4. Overcoming Poverty + Financial Stability

The JLB believes basic needs should never be a barrier to success. Through the JLB’s Backpack Buddies program, volunteers provide weekend meals to food-insecure students, and the Essentials Pantry, which stocks toiletries, school supplies and clothing in local schools.
