Share a Coke, Birmingham! We gave unique names to Bham hot spots

Now that Coca-Cola has relaunched the Share a Coke campaign, I’m seeing more and more Coke bottles and cans with names on them.
No luck on finding my own yet, but after looking at all the different names, I got to thinking: What if I personified places in Birmingham with the names I see on Coke bottles?
So I did. Keep reading for five iconic Birmingham spots and what I would name them (if I had that power).
1. Sloss Furnaces: Autumn

When I moved to Birmingham, my first introduction to Sloss Furnaces was going to Sloss Fright Furnace during the Halloween season. Ever since then, I’ve been encapsulated by its fall-like essence.
As soon as I found “Autumn” on one of our Coca-Cola bottles, I immediately thought of Sloss Furnaces as the perfect Autumn.
2. Alabama Theatre: Gabriella

Gabriella has a very theatrical quirk to it, so it was fitting for The Alabama Theatre. (Callie Morrison / Bham Now)
The Showplace of the South needed, in my opinion, a theatrical name to fit its historic and proper essence.
I saw the Gabriella Coke bottle and immediately knew: This belongs to the Alabama Theatre.
Maybe I’m just reliving my High School Musical obsession, or maybe Gabriella is a name made for the stage.
3. Birmingham Zoo: Diego

As a kid, I loved the TV show “Go, Diego, Go!” and watching Diego help animals in danger.
While searching for the perfect names for iconic Birmingham spots, I asked a few people: “Which of these names would you give to the Birmingham Zoo?” I’m happy to report that every person I asked said “Diego.”
4. Vulcan: Julian

Okay, I know Vulcan’s name is obviously ‘Vulcan’, but you look at that huge cast iron statue in the sky and tell me he doesn’t look like a ‘Julian’.
The name Julian has a Roman origin and translates to “Jove’s Child.” In Roman mythology, Jove is the god of the sky.
So, Birmingham’s very own Roman god of fire and forge was the perfect match for the Julian Coke bottle.
5. Coca-Cola Amphitheatre: Layla

The rock song “Layla” made this one too easy! Coca-Cola Amphitheatre is the perfect Layla. (Bham Now)
1973 hit “Layla” topped the charts during its time, but the fame didn’t stop there. Eric Clapton won a GRAMMY® for “Layla” (and 16 others).
Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band joined Clapton on the song, and I just know their guitar riffs would kill it in Birmingham’s new Coca-Cola Amphitheater.

Searching for my name on magnets, key chains and Coke bottles is an experience I’ve enjoyed since I was a kid. I claim to have grown out of it, but I still hopelessly dig through grocery store shelves for “Callie” every once in a while.
If you’re like me and can never seem to find your name out in the wild, Coca-Cola has this handy little tool where you can personalize your own bottle or can.
You can select your favorite brand and personalize it with your name or phrase of choice. You can even select themes for birthdays, graduations, holidays and more.
I’m off to finally get my name on a Coke bottle. Get yours personalized today and Share a Coke, Birmingham!
