NOAA Weather Radio outage: What Birmingham residents need to know

Do not depend on your NOAA Weather Radio if you live in the Birmingham metro area and Central Alabama when potential storms roll in this Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Birmingham Office, a software update to the system was scheduled months in advance between May 19 to May 21. 

Unfortunately, NOAA Weather Radio transmitters will be offline today in the following areas:

  • Winfield
  • Oneonta
  • Birmingham
  • Anniston
  • Tuscaloosa
  • Demopolis
  • Selma
  • Montgomery
  • Auburn
  • Texasville
