Avondale Brewing Company will host the 12th Annual Darter Fest this Sunday, May 4
Reading time: 2 minutes

Darter Fest is back for its 12th Annual celebration at Avondale Brewing Company this Sunday, May 4th from Noon to 5PM.
This celebration aims to increase awareness of the Watercress Darter, one of the worldβs rarest fish.
What makes the Darter Fest special?

If youβve never heard of the Watercress Darter, chances are youβve never seen it either. Exclusively native to Jefferson County, the darter is extremely endangered due to its limited distribution and specific habitat requirements.
The festival will help support watershed education programs for local schools and STEM programs.
Alabama Environmental Council has partnered with Avondale Brewing Company to increase awareness and support for this tiny fish that is a catalyst for the restoration of Birmingham Springs.
βAfter Birmingham-Southern College closed, the Alabama Environmental Council (AEC) graciously allowed our center to house its grant programs at the AEC, and so thatβs been really beneficial, because it means that we can continue our Birmingham watershed program.
AEC has also facilitated the search and raising some funds to undertake a search for a new location for the center to be housed.β
