Walton Goggins to host SNL: A Birmingham connection
Reading time: 2 minutes

Walton Goggins, Birmingham native and star of the HBO hit series The White Lotus is scheduled to host Saturday Night Live (SNL) on May 10.
Goggins joins Charles Barkley, Courtney Cox and Kate Jackson as the fourth SNL host with ties to Birmingham to lead the iconic show.
Fun fact: Barkley has hosted SNL four-times. He is now one episode away from making SNL’s legendary 5-timer’s club.
Goggins Birmingham connection

Goggins was born in Birmingham, but resided in Georgia after his first birthday. According to multiple biographical stories, he learned to love theater when he often visited The Magic City to watch his aunt and uncle perform in local theater productions.
It is very likely he saw them at the Town & Gown Theater — what is today’s Virginia Samford Theatre (VST).
We asked VST’s Executive Director Phillip Mann about being a part of Goggins connection to the theater scene here in Birmingham.
“Birmingham is proud to have played a part in Walton’s early theatre going experiences. The theatre world is not unlike “White Lotus” on occasion, and we welcome him back anytime!”
Perhaps Goggins can incorporate a mix of White Lotus and Birmingham Theatre into an SNL skit!
In addition to The White Lotus, Goggins has also starred in The Righteous Gemstones series for the past 6 seasons.
