If you visit or pass by Railroad Park any day over the next few months, then you might find groups dancing their hearts out, or maybe you’ll see curious faces watching a cooking demonstration.
These classes are known as Get Healthy on the Railroad, and the new season officially kicked off on April 1. Let’s take a look at what’s offered!
Get Healthy on the Railroad

Nestled on 19 acres in the heart of Birmingham is one of my favorite local spots, Railroad Park. Its year-round community events are unrivaled, in my humble opinion, and Get Healthy on the Railroad is no exception.
Sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBSAL), these fun and unique sessions are back and happening all the way through October—and they’re completely free.
Get moving with fitness classes, Monday-Saturday at 6PM

Thanks to these free classes offered daily, BCBSAL has made staying healthy in Birmingham easier than ever.
Evening classes held daily at 6PM:
- Monday: Boxing cardio—This workout combines martial arts techniques with fast-paced cardio.
- Tuesday: Hip Hop cardio—Feel the burn as you dance through hip-hop choreography with a funky playlist.
- Wednesday: Zumba—The Latin-inspired dance fitness class is fun, easy to follow + one of my favorites.
- Thursday: Yoga—Take a breather + quiet your mind while you strengthen your body and find balance + flexibility.
- Friday: Line dancing—Get moving with fun, low-impact exercises designed for all ages.
- Saturday: Pilates—Focusing on core strengthening and flexibility, pilates is my newfound favorite workout.
You can join any of these now until October 31. Get there 15 minutes before your class to register!
Stay active at all ages with Senior Fit, every Tuesday, Friday + Saturday at 8AM

No matter our age—it’s important to stay active. “Senior Fit” was designed with a focus on low-impact movement that is beneficial for older adults.
Classes are Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8AM, each focusing on strength, flexibility, endurance and balance.
Learn from local chefs at cooking classes, select Sundays at 3:30PM

In addition to the exercise classes, BCBSAL sponsors free cooking classes once a month on select Sundays at 3:30PM
Local chefs will lead cooking demonstrations, food tastings and offer take-home recipes.
