United Way at United Ability
(United Ability)

United Ability sees a world where people are not defined or limited by their disabilities. In 2024, the Birmingham organization impacted the lives of 5,808 children, adults and caregivers—providing life-changing services that enhance independence, growth and opportunity.

On Friday, May 2, you have a unique opportunity to be part of this 76-year-old mission and directly support Birmingham families. Plus, you get a pretty cool T-shirt.

Possibility Beyond Disability

Embracing “Possibility Beyond Disability” means recognizing that every individual, regardless of their physical or mental challenges, possesses unique strengths, talents and potential.

On United Ability Day, you can celebrate this mission alongside United Ability staff, participants, families and the entire Birmingham community.

“We are so excited about United Ability Day on May 2. With partnerships with some of the top corporations in all of Birmingham, along with some of the top social media presences in our city, we feel as if United Ability Day will help further awareness and recognition to adults and children with disabilities.

We look forward to making this a community-wide celebration for all individuals with disabilities who never stop believing in themselves or their peers.”

Susan Sellers, CEO, United Ability

Every time I’ve visited United Ability, whether it was playing with the kiddos at Hand In Hand or bonding with friends at Dr. E’s Place, I’ve seen the love United Ability staff, supporters and participants have for each other.

“United Ability and Hand In Hand had all the services Hannah needed [to learn to walk, talk, and thrive], but it was so much more than that—we found a community.”

Kyle Couture
