Today, the Birmingham City Council approved liquor licenses for two new restaurants coming to the Magic City later this year. Read on to learn more about this major milestone for Johin’na and Lapeer Steak and Seafood.
Johin’na and Lapeer Steak and Seafood approved for liquor licenses

With approval from the Birmingham City Council in their back pockets, two restaurants are gearing up to open their doors in Birmingham.
Located at 201 20th St N in The Frank, Johin’na is an upcoming Japanese-Southern fusion restaurant billed as “Japanese cuisine with a modern flair.” Although no opening date has been announced, the website hints that Johin’na will offer robata, sushi, sashimi, oysters, sake and cocktails.

Meanwhile—across the Railroad Reservation—the team behind Lapeer Steak & Seafood is getting ready for its planned 2025 opening. Founded in Alpharetta, GA, this chef-inspired steak & seafood concept will be located at 2308 1st Ave S in The Hardwick, an adaptive redevelopment of a historic 110+-year-old building on 1st Avenue South.
When Lapeer Steak & Seafood opens, it will join The Hardwick’s other tenant, Ballard Designs—a leading furniture design and home decor retailer that opened its first Alabama location in Birmingham. Another restaurant—Nashville-based Lebanese bistro Epice—is set to open later this year at The Hardwick.
