United Way + more local orgs launch disaster relief funds

Last week’s storms affected 52 of Alabama’s 67 counties.
Now, local organizations like United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) and Regions Bank are stepping up to help through disaster relief funds and more efforts.
United Way of Central Alabama

UWCA launched a donation website to support families and communities in need after the Saturday, March 15 tornadoes.
If you know anything about UWCA, you know their track record of meeting needs across Central Alabama.

Regions Bank

Regions Bank announced a series of financial services to help those affected by the tornadoes, which launched across seven states.

Our hearts are with everyone impacted, and we are here to support people, families and businesses as recovery moves forward.”

According to a press release, Regions disaster-relief services include:
- Mortgage Disaster Relief Purchase + Renovation loan programs
- Surcharges waived for non-Regions customers using Regions ATMs in the impacted areas for 7 days beginning Thursday, March 20
- Non-Regions ATM fees will be waived when Regions customers use other banks’ ATMs in the impacted areas for at least 7 days starting Thursday, March 20 (Fees charged by other banks/ATM owners may still apply)
- No check-cashing fees charged for FEMA-issued checks when cashed in a Regions branch
- Personal + business loan payment assistance available
- Payment deferrals available for current credit card holders
- Business loan payment deferrals of up to 90 days available (offer expiring June 19, 2025)
- One penalty-free CD withdrawal available upon request (unless within 7 days of issuance/renewal) for up to 90 days (offer expiring June 19, 2025)
- Interest rate discount up to 0.50% on new personal unsecured loans when customers in impacted areas apply in a branch or by phone (offer expiring June 19, 2025)
- Interest rate discount up to 0.50% on non-business auto loans when customers in impacted areas apply in-branch or by phone (offer expiring June 19, 2025)
